Friday Five [3.17.17]

Happy Friday!!  It's been a pretty terrific week and we're one week closer to Spring Break.  I can hardly wait!  Now for this week's five:

ONE
While I'm loving this Lilly Pulitzer cover up, I'm thinking this Target special might be the budget friendly find for Spring Break and Summer!

TWO
Bestie MHDRL popped in unexpectedly from Texas for her mom's big b-day this week.  It was such an incredible surprise and I'm soaking up every minute with her and her boys.  My heart is so full!!

THREE
I see this sweet, little reminder on the way to get my hair done.  Never fails to make me smile.

FOUR
Speaking of the new do, my hair is always especially curly after a fresh cut.  One of my darling 3rd graders said, "Mrs. Fitch you have hair like my sister.  I'm so lucky I didn't get it and I have straight hair."  From the mouths of babes...

FIVE
My love of honey bees is no secret.  While we've tried with a few new hives over the last few years, they never manage to make it through the winter.  Sadly, this year is no exception.  Just another example of how in danger they really are.  Cheerios is trying to help though.  They are giving away wildflower seeds in hopes of bringing back the bees!  You can get your seeds here.

Wishing y'all a wonderful weekend!

Sip and Shop Sunday [Coffee Edition]

Happy Sunday!  Today I'm sipping on a basic cup of coffee, brewed in our Chemex, with cream and sugar.  I'm a traditionalist and, in my humble opinion, it brews the very best cup of coffee.

During the week we use our Cuisinart for ease and the programmable setting, but on the weekends we pull out the trusty 'ole Chemex and slow brew a tasty pot.  Using their filters slowly pour the water over the grounds, allowing time for them to bloom.  The pot can be kept warm over a low gas flame.

If I had my druthers we'd have the Ottomatic , which does the slow drip for you, and use it daily, but the price tag is too high at this point.  I'll just keep enjoying the manual pour and the look of the carafe on the stove.

Hope you have had a wonderful weekend!  Cheers!

Happy Sipping and Shopping!

Friday Five [3.3.17]

Happy Friday!  Happy March!!  March is one of my favorite months.  It's prospect of warmer weather, spring flowers, and summer being just around the corner.  This year is no different.  It's going to be a big month...BIG things happening with the tennis program, a girls' trip to the beach, Brother #3 is celebrating a BIG birthday, and, if I'm being honest, I'm celebrating an even bigger (or just plain older??) birthday.  But before we get to all of those, here's this week's five

ONE
I've been debating on a pair of Birkenstocks forever, but just can't seem to decide.  If you have a favorite pair I'd love to hear about them!  I think I have it narrowed to this pair or this pair, but am open to suggestions!

TWO
I recently started the The Greek Diet (and have received relentless teasing about the fact that the Greek girl needed to read a book about the Greek diet...it's really just a plan friends, a plan....to eat all those things I grew up eating and loving).  The book talks a lot about Greek Mountain Tea (and the older generations of both my friends and family swear by it).  I ordered some from Amazon and have been sipping on it every afternoon.  I like mine with a bit of honey or lemon. Honestly, it reminds me of all those times growing up sipping (begrudgingly at that point) on chamomile, another Greek staple.

THREE
While I'm actually loving the new eating plan, there are points in which:

FOUR
However, if you're going to eat a salad, eat this one.  Jacques Pepin's recipes never disappoint and this one is no exception.

FIVE
The 3rd grade boys were in a fit of absolute giggles the other day.  One, in particular, was pretty tickled with himself.

SIX
A little extra something this week...but who's counting?

Wishing y'all a wonderful weekend!

What's for Dinner [Jacques Pepin's Greens with Cream Dressing]

Y'all have I got a recipe for you today.  I swear this is so delicious I could eat it with a spoon!  There has yet to be a Jacques Pepin recipe I haven't absolutely loved and this certainly didn't disappoint.
We served along side baked cod and used a bit to drizzle over the fish, too.

Jacques Pepin's Greens with Quick Cream Dressing

Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • 1/4 t. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 1/2 t. red wine vinegar
  • 8 cups loosely packed young Boston lettuce, washed and dried
Directions:
  • Put the cream, salt, and pepper in a salad bowl and whip for about 15 seconds, or just until frothy.  Stir in the vinegar.
  • Add lettuce, toss briefly, and serve immediately.
  • Note: If it's too thick dilute with 1T of water before tossing with lettuce.

Happy Cooking!!
