Five on Friday [The Garden Edition]

T.G.I.F!!!!!  I'm so very excited that the weekend is almost here!!  I'm headed to Chicago as my Koumbaroi are baptizing their little one.  It's sure to be a spectacular celebration and I'm anxious to be a part of the special day.  But first, let's get down to this week's Five on Friday.

ONE
As I was planting the hanging baskets last weekend, Hubby made some different suggestions.  Ultimately, we decided to each plant our own, using our own method, and see how things turn out.  He has announced he's not going to water mine....I'm all on my own.....admittedly, Hubby's much better about that than I am.  But in light of the competition, I just might be better about it this summer!

Monogrammed Vino

In the warmer months Hubby and I enjoy "Happy Hour" out on the back porch....usually while something cooks up on the grill for dinner.  I'm usually hesitant to use our good stemware for fear of it breaking so when the Initial Proper monogram sale popped up on my IG feed, I jumped on it.  My only regret is not ordering more!  (I just didn't have complete faith that I'd be able to apply the monogram correctly.....and leave it to me to try something rounded and not flat on my first go....)

DIY Plant Markers

Although I've been yearning to get our garden going this year, the weather just hasn't been cooperating.  It rained all day Saturday, so instead I decided to tackle a little garden DIY indoors.

Five on Friday

WOOHOO!!!  It's Friday!  Things have been extremely hectic and crazy the last couple weeks.  I'm really looking forward to a quiet and relaxing weekend with the Hubs.  So, let's get right down to it.  Here's this week's Five on Friday:

ONE
The week started out on Sunday with Pink Sunday.  Oh my goodness.  I wasn't prepared for the chaos in the least, but did manage to snag a few goodies.

Monogram Shoe Clips

I LOVE monograms.  On anything.  You know the saying....if it isn't moving, monogram it....let me tell you, I believe and support that fully!  Why should shoes be any different??  I was so very excited when this little package arrived in my mailbox.

I've worn them with both black flats and heels from my own closet and had a great time in the shoe aisle at Target trying them on the many different styles.

So classic on black patents flats.

Divvy

I mentioned last week that I had the most fabulous girls' night at a terrific local restaurant.

What's for Dinner [Pastitso]

Last week I shared the religious traditions of Orthodox Easter (here, here, and here) but I didn't mention the food....and let me tell you....the food is incredible!  After fasting for 40 days, we go all out: roasted lamb (usually a whole one on a spit), spanakopita, Greek potatoes, green beans with lamb shanks, tsoureki (Easter bread), magiritsa (soup), and pastitso.  (Not to mention the sweets.)

The Joys of Greek Easter according to Rita Wilson

This article has been popping up all over Facebook the last few years and has been sent to me by a few different friends.  I wanted to share it with you, as I've been sharing my Holy Week experiences with you. (My notes are in blue.)

From the Washington Post
(Actress Rita Wilson, whose mother and father both were born in Greece, is widely credited with landing Nia Vardalos a movie deal for "My Big Fat Greek Wedding".  Wilson and her husband Tom Hanks had their own "Big Fat Greek Wedding".

Five on Friday [Good Friday]

Today I'm just popping in for a quick hello.  I'm breaking the rules and not sharing five on this Holy Day.  (Yesterday I explained the why Orthodox Easter is on a different date than Western Easter.)

Instead this morning I will be joining the ladies of my church to decorate the Kouvouklion (Christ's Tomb).  It is truly one of my very favorite experiences of the year, followed by the evening candlelit funeral service of Christ.

The decorated Kouvouklion from years past (obviously before we completed the Iconography.)

Holy Thursday

This is Holy Week in the Eastern Orthodox Church.  The week is full of traditions, services, and much love.  (You can read this article to understand why our Easter is on a different day than Western Easter.)

Countdown to Retirement [Printable]

This week I created a fun little countdown to retirement printable (no, not my retirement).  I have a  sweet, dear friend who is lucky enough to be retiring at the end of this school year and to commemorate that exciting event I whipped up this countdown on my trusty picmonkey.  I slipped it into a little frame and gifted it with a dry erase marker so she can update the countdown daily.  (It really is my favorite way to countdown something fun....Christmas, for example, but the sky is the limit, really.)

On My Bookshelf [What Alice Forgot]

Well, although today it's back to work, Spring Break was delightful.  It was productive (both working at tennis and doing a little spring cleaning) and relaxing.  I made a concerted effort to set some time aside each day to do a little reading.  I was even able to do so while sitting in the sunshine on the back porch.  Heaven.

I chose What Alice Forgot, by Liane Moriarty not only because the premise was entirely intriguing, but because I've also enjoyed her other books.  (Read those reviews here and here.)  I was hooked from the beginning, and although parts were somewhat slow, it was interesting to see how the characters lives had changed.  It was a quick, good read that I do recommend.

Five on Friday [It's April!]

I've been on Spring Break all week, so am a little less enthused that it's Friday.  Just not quite ready for the break to be over!! It has been a wonderful week.  Hoping yours has been just as great!  Now here's this week's Five on Friday:

ONE
I've introduced Hubby to Greek Frappe (iced coffee).  He loves it.  We've started each morning with a glass and I'm sure will continue to do so during the hot summer months.

Easter Wreath

When I saw the cute little wreath from Pick Your Plum and a free shipping coupon in my inbox on the same day, I knew it had to be mine.  I've had great luck using this website for various craft supplies and love seeing what the deal of the day will be each morning.  This little bunny was no different.

My Style [China Obsession]

I have a problem.  I completely confess that it is a problem.  A true love.  Really.  It drives Hubby crazy, but I love china.  Dishes, serving pieces, everything.  I spent forever choosing an every day pattern, and finally fell in love with Pillivuyt's Queen Anne.  I. love. it.  Truly.
