Chocolate Dipped Blood Oranges with Sea Salt

We love all things citrus in this little hive, especially this time of year when it's most delicious.  Add a little chocolate and a pinch of sea salt and it elevates delicious to a whole other level.  These make the perfect little afternoon treat and would also make for a special little homemade Valentine....just add a clear gift bag and a big bow.

Chocolate Dipped Blood Oranges with Sea Salt
Ingredients:

  • 2-3 blood oranges (or clementines or citrus of your choosing)
  • 2/3 c semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 t. shortening (optional - helps smooth chocolate)
  • sea salt
  • Wax or parchment paper
Directions:
  • Either in a double boiler over a medium low flame, or in the microwave, melt chocolate chips.  Add shortening and mix well.
  • While chocolate melts, peel oranges and separate slices.
  • If melting in double boiler pour chocolate into a small coffee cup.  (I always melt on the stove top because I can't seem to successfully do so in the microwave, hence the extra step.)
  • Dip orange slices into melted chocolate.
  • Lay flat on wax paper to dry. Sprinkle with sea salt to taste.

Happy Cooking!
